This COP28 in Dubai is likely to be a massive greenwashing operation

The new climate conference organized by the United Nations is enough to leave one skeptical and doubtful. COP28 will be held from November 30th to December 12th, 2023 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Dubai, with its ski resort in the desert, oversized shopping malls, air-conditioned stadiums, and dominance of automobiles, is not exactly an example of ecological transition. Sultan Ahmed al Jaber, the president of COP28, is the CEO of the national oil company of Abu Dhabi (ADNOC). They have announced plans to increase crude oil production from 3 million to 5 million barrels per day by 2030. These indications suggest that COP28 will be, at best, ineffective and at worst, counterproductive.
